Mom, look what I did!!!!!

Dearest Mom
Move over parsley - I grew this!!!!! My only question is - why did the plant only produce ONE tomato????

Debs arrived at crazy with this lovely bunch of sunflowers and a box of chocolate (no photo of chocolate because ...............well, I ate them) - to cheer me up, you know the empty nest thing???

I had 5 hours to kill today, Gareth's car was being collected - we are sending it to Canberra so he does not have to drive it there - so basically I had to stay at home and wait.................so I made this little bag from a kit I bought - it looked a bit lonely in the photo so I added the little Zulu doll you and Dad bought for me.

I also made this tote from laminated fabric - then I had left over fabric so I made yet ANOTHER boxed bag!!!!

I have finished the "quilt that you do not like" !!!

It's very hot here and my house is empty!!!

Orchids and "Snuffles".............

Dearest Mom
As you know, once a month I TRY to meet with Irene, Leanne, Pam and Connie. They never want to pose for a photo - so this is the best I can do!!!!

This month we went to Irene's home ...........

...............her husband, Paul, is a keen gardener.................and it shows - wow, how gorgeous is this yellow orchid bush type thing???

I was given a little bit of it which Connie is going to pot for me - lets see how I go with keeping it alive!!

The crochet rug that I made for Button is like a mushroom - they keep popping up every where - Pam has made about two of them.....

I was a tad jealous of Pam's "Snuffles" that she made - mine is still in the packet!!!

For the girls in Oz I am placing an order with Eunice and Di at Teddy Tech - so if any of you want to order more - please let me know - we can save a bit on postage (from South Africa) if we get them send in one batch.
This one is my favourite - Rag-a-Muffin................

Dandylion...............

The kits include joints, glass eyes and mohair (fur) and very detailed instructions.

I was fortunate to be taught all the tricks and tips for making the bears by Eunice (bear maker extra ordinaire) - so we can organise a get together to make them next year.

Gareth leaves tomorrow, Mom and Dad!!!

A show and tell.................

Dearest Mom
It's always good to see the quilts that have been made in classes that I teach. A few of us got together for a quick show and tell...........
Deb combined Kaffe Fassett and black and white dots.............

............she loved it - we all did................

Isobel used a layer cake - circa 1930's - and a jelly roll for her border - this photograph does not do this quilt justice, which is a pity ................

Tory's blue quilt is not yet completed - she is a lady who likes things how she likes them - so this takes a while!!!!! Actually, I know a lot of people like Tory...............you know who you are!!!!!

Sara-Maree - lovely and bright and happy - she will be using this quilt as a floor rug in your baby's room - lovely idea!!!!

Di's quilt was finished a while back - quilted by Fiona - this is a gift for her son and daughter-in-law - although Di would like to keep it for herself!!!!

Now, Cheryl, on the other hand, arrived at the show and tell with her hexagons still in their little packets. To be fair, though, she has been a busy girl - what with an overseas trip and all!!!!

Deb - maker of many quilts - bought this one along too. She bought this as a kit from the Patchwork Angel.

Joanne's first quilt - welcome to club, Joanne. I hope you were told that patchwork is addictive!!

I apologise for some quilts that are not on this post - the photographs were not very good.

And to the girls who could not make the little trunk show - maybe next time.

I have finished quilting the quilt that you do not like Mom - all I need to do is bind it. Phew, well ahead of schedule. It has been so hot and dry - not very pleasant hand quilting weather.

Being busy................

Dearest Mom and Dad
Apologies for no posts this week - I have been kept busy - (quilting this quilt - I am still on track - halfway quilted and am hoping to get the other half done this week)

Another full time job is feeding Gareth!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember Cathy's amazing parsley bush?

Well, after I took the photo of it - this is what it looks like now!!!!!!!! Odd that..........

We spent a lovely evening at Cathy's...............Isn't this sugar bowl so sweet??

She baked a chocolate and berry cake with pink icing.............check out Cathy's blog for some of her action shots - she captures atmospheres perfectly..............

I think she said that this little box belonged to her Mother.................

.......the contents were just as interesting.................cotton reels and bits and bobs..........

................and suspender belts!!!!!

Carol ......................

Dearest Mom and Dad
Remembering some of the wonderful times I shared with my beloved sister......

C - caring
A - articulate
R - remarkable
O - outspoken
L - loyal

Dinner time - we always had a good time - our round dining room table - my constant...........

Young Moms - how much fun did we have when you, Carol and Nunu travelled down in the Volskie to Umhlanga................. we laughed, how we laughed..............

Oh my gosh - remember how boring Carol found the Animal Farm!!!!!!

All three of us together- the Snashall kids ................. a rare occurrence, unfortunately..............

Carol and Button in Montville - her holiday to Oz.......................

I miss her terribly.

Just a few things............

Dearest Mom
We received these in the post this weekend from Button............a card for each of us.........

This is my birthday card - sorry I can't seem to get this loaded on properly...........

.............strange combination - the cover and Button's beautiful words (lots of them - Gareth said it was like a book)................

I fell on the beach the other day - I was walking along the rocks and decided to look at the photo on the camera that I taken - when I tripped - Gareth and Vaughn were ahead of me - so I lay there sprawled out on the rocks calling to get their attention - just to see what they would do - well, to cut a long story very short - they did not hear me - there were quite a few people on the beach so I thought it might be wise to get up in case some of them came over to my aide!!!!!! My knee was a bit grazed and bruised.

Moral of the story - don't walk on rocks and check photos at the same time AND don't expect Vaughn and Gareth to hear my cries for help!!!!!!!

I am back on track with THE quilt - lets hope I can get it done on time. I did want the quilting stitches to be a bit bigger - but I kept going back to this length so obviously I am comfortable with them being smaller. Which is a pity - big would have been better!!

Biltong sarmies...............

Dearest Mom and Dad
As you know, I decided to go to a South African gathering - which is not something I normally do. While there was something comforting and familiar being amongst a mass of South African women and hearing the accents around me, I did feel very uncomfortable at times too.......

OH MY HAT - biltong covered sarmies - I have never tasted them before - I could have eaten a whole loaf of them......................

Interesting way to serve Babotie - not nearly as good as yours!!!!!!!!!!

You said that this was Malva pudding??? Quite nice............

This was not a highlight of the day for me - when the band played "Liefling"..........

I did get to see friends that I have not seen in years ............

Unfortunately, I did agree to model for Elmarie............... which was a bit daunting...........the back of me is the best view!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The mother-of-the-bride outfit - hmmmmmmmmmmmm - no comment!!

It's funny how you never think you have aged, until you see yourself in photos or in the reflection of shop windows!!!!!!!!
