Dearest Mom
Jane attached this little label to a Christmas gift she gave me. And she is right, friendship is a million little things.............................
...................it's enjoying the same interests.........

....................taking on the same challenges..................

.................making you beautiful gifts for special birthdays.....................

........................always happy to eat your baked goods that you happen to throw her way.........

...................trusting you with finishing off her projects.............

..................posing for ANOTHER photo when she would rather chew barbed wire...............

...................having the same friends........................

......................giving you flowers when your Mom is not too good..................

......................giving you cute little gifts for no reason......................

..........................knowing what you like..............

...........................putting up with George.....................(this is a big ask)......

....................having the same taste in fabric...........(well, most of the time)..........

..................picking up your 1/2inch hexagon papers which you dropped, while you stand and take photos!!!!!!!!

...................but most of all, a friend is always being there no matter what life throws at you and
putting up with you no matter how impossible you are.

Thanks Jane and Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now don't forget how to do this Mom, double click on the highlighted words - and then you will go into their website!!!! She took her first class on Saturday - I think I need to go to Sydney the next time she teaches and see how she goes. Care to join me????

A little bit of this and that...........................

Dearest Mom and Dad
Thank you for your kind words about the blog, Dad. I really enjoying doing it for you - and yes, in some way it does make the world feel a little smaller.........................
Di popped into the Patchwork Angel the other day to show me the quilt that she had made in a class with me. Isn't it so good? Di was so happy with this quilt and so she should be.

I am going through a bit of a knitting fad at the moment. This jumper is for me. One of the Tall People informed me that he was feeling a bit left out and also wanted me to knit him and "old school jumper". The only thing is, it will take me years - he is sooooooooooo big and tall.

Be impressed Mom, look I got a plant to flower!!!!!!! Oh happy days!!! Lee gave this to me a while ago, and I know that it is a succulent and almost impossible to kill - but you know me - I have definitely NOT inherited your green thumbs................

My gorgeous family...................

A collection of South African goodies I found for Vaughn's birthday - the biltong was hidden away - Squash can smell it a mile away.............

Button is a bit put out - George and Squash have now attached themselves to the Tall People since Button has left. Button was sitting in the same room when this photo was taken............she was most indignant that they chose to squeeze themselves into this little space rather than sit with her on the couch..............

We went to the Mexican restaurant AGAIN when I visited Button - Tess, Button and Willie.........

in fact, Willie looks as though he is Mexican - please note that they are wearing the sombreros - so that meant we were serenaded to..........Please note that Button is wearing her jumper!!!

Button's room mate (Jenna) is a make up artist - how convenient!!!!!!

I saw this purple dog at a salon in Surrey Hills - we could not get him to sit still for a decent photo though - he was too busy playing with the other blue and red dogs!!!!!!!!

A job done.................

Dearest Mom
On Friday, while Button was at work, I got stuck into this....................

...............after a few hours of scrubbing and cleaning, I unpacked the kitchen and it looked like this................ the flat they are renting is very old but spacious.....................

Then we went to IKEA to get some more bits and bobs for Button's room. To be honest, IKEA is not my cup of tea. It is HUGE and there are so many things to choose from - no one to help you - very impersonal - but maybe it's because I am old - Button loved the whole experience. Once you choose what you want, you then have to go and FIND your purchase - that is Button, WAY down the end of that MASSIVE aisle ...........................

We had a few issues to get around - she is not allowed to hang things on the walls (no nails can be used) - problem was solved with a few small butcher hooks and black/white spotted ribbon.

a room is not quite complete without some roses.......................

.............................AND fairy lights....................

With no sewing machine available - adjusting the tabs on her curtains proved challenging - we then found these giant buttons..............................

..........book shelf from IKEA - but bookends were expensive - jars filled with marbles work a treat................

.................study area - a little desk, pink chair and blackboard.........................

..............cupboards and storage space - IKEA - Button is a whizz at assembling the furniture now ......

Button lives in Randwick now - I could so easily live in Sydney - especially Randwick or Coogee.

The area is filled with lovely old homes, lots of tiny restaurants and cafes and not a chain store in sight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can see myself living here - has sea views too..........

Button lives a block away from the main street in Randwick - so we walked to the shops, restaurants etc. This photo was taken at night on our way back from dinner.

Our last dinner - we attempted to cook on their gas stove - I have never used one in my life - Button obviously has - but modern ones in restaurants - we couldn't get it to work - nothing that a phone call to Jane couldn't solve.....................We also did not have all the ingredients - no chillies or garlic - but it was still delish - prosciutto and pea pasta with blue cheese - yummy........

Despite me feeling so awful - we achieved what we set out to do - made Button's room pretty and functional.

Oh Mom, it's times like this..................

Dearest Mom and Dad
So off I went to Sydney as sick as a dog with the flu...................Button loved her mini/jumper that I had crippled my hands for - in fact she wore it twice over the weekend.

The Actor's Centre is in a lovely old church in the middle of Surrey Hills - one of my favourite suburbs of Sydney. Ainslie has been studying here for the last 4 months.

To end off the course the budding actors performed different scenes from the plays that they had studied. Button's role was that of a bride getting ready to go into the church to get married when she finds out that her husband -to- be had cheated on her with her best friend. Oh, the drama!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No photos were allowed (obviously) but I did sneak one in as they were doing their curtain call!!!!!

When it was all over we gathered on the stage with all the actors - to hug and kiss our actors!!!!

Button and her male lead. And yes, I know, that I am Button's mom - BUT, she was soooooooo good - I cried. And cried...............

We all went over the road to a pub - naturally - for a "few" drinks.................

As per usual - the tiles on the floor fascinated me - so here is the obligatory photo. Button can't quite understand my fascination - in fact, I think I drive her slightly mad!!!! I often walk into people and things looking at the floor!!!!!!!!!!

More photos to follow.

A little bit of this and that................

Dearest Mom and Dad
We had some cold weather over the weekend - the Unit got to wear his slippers that he bought in Holland - they are HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, that I have not blogged recently BUT on Friday I decided to knit for Button - I will be seeing her TOMORROW!!!!!!! I knitted this beanie which I think needs a bigger button - but Gareth said it would look ridiculous!!!!!!! I think I might change it anyway...........

I need to knit one sleeve today and the jumper will be finished - lets hope I can get it done.....

This is the pattern I am using..............

The Sunshine Coast Stadium is now open - so we can watch the rugby in luxury.

We now have to pay to watch the boys play. But the stadium is pretty impressive.

The Stingrays played their first game at the stadium over the weekend - it was freezing and rainy - they played under lights. The field looks good, doesn't it, Dad?

Gareth delivering his post match speech - we played Brothers and lost - AGAIN. We are not doing to well this year - the team has not played one game with the same back line. Dad, Caleb Ralph will be playing for the Reds for the rest of the season. Can you believe that????????

I made 4kg of spare ribs for the team (I thought they needed cheering up) - they had a "team building session" - yeah right - on Sunday. Gareth said they were eaten in about five minutes!!!

I am full of flu at the moment - in fact I feel awful. But I need t0 get better FAST - I fly to Sydney tomorrow - WOOHOO - another weekend with Button. I am looking forward to seeing her new flat - she (well, actually, we ...) has spent up a storm at Ikea. Her "Utando" cushion looks good with the little rug I made.
