Tea at Maries' and 10 years in Oz.............

Dearest Mom and Dad
Seems as though I have not blogged in ages.... sorry about that. Mom, I thought you might enjoy seeing Marie's garden, well, just a bit of it.  Her husband goes "up North' or "out West" or 'out Bush" - but anyway, he finds all these interesting logs and things.........

This burned out log has a colony of native bees living in it - they are very small little bees that do not sting - so Marie tells me..................
 I particularly like this one............
Can you believe the size of this stag horn????????
Marie made the most delicious muffins for tea - I love the presentation ...............
Vaughn and I went out to have a little celebratory lunch on Sunday........... we have been in Oz TEN YEARS!!!!! Can you believe it?????
I made up a parcel of quintessentially South African goodies for two special friends.........to say thanks............
Cathy - who I met through Margret........
And Margret who I met just 2 weeks after landing in Oz - as you know she was so very kind to me in those early years that I found so hard.
TEN YEARS - gosh - I still can't believe it.

Birthdays.........

Dearest Mom and Dad
We went out for dinner to celebrate Ady's birthday - such an enjoyable night!

I had no idea what to buy her - then I discovered THIS in the local bottle shop - Johannesburger!!!! Do you remember back in the day when every restaurant had one of these bottles on the tables with a candle in it ???

Button turned 23 - can you believe it??  It only seemed like yesterday when I bought her home and you were there to help me.........................

An evening at Cathy's

Dearest Mom and Dad
So here's the thing, Blogspot has changed stuff around and I have no idea how it works  - so if this post is all over the shop - I am sorry.
While Vaughn was in Sydney I had time to tack this scrap quilt that I started during the last rugby season. I am hoping to have it quilted by Easter as Gareth wants to take it back with him to Canberra - but it is HUGE - so maybe I will have to post it to him instead.

It's a good thing that I have another quilt to work on as Charlotte quite enjoys sleeping on the hexie one!!

Margret, Jane and I spent a lovely evening at Cathy's - I had WAY too much wine to drink - thank goodness Jane was there as my driver!!!!  Cathy was binding this quilt.......

.............that she had made for this cause............

Margret had been on ANOTHER overseas trip and came back bearing gifts..........

Here she is hard at work and sober!!!!

She is English paper piecing a quilt - but she needs to loosen up a bit - me thinks she is a tad anal when it comes to storing her covered papers!!!!!

I have started to quilt my little hexagon quilt - it feels good to be handing quilting - I find it so relaxing.......

Elaine - from my Thursday crazy class made this Kelly Wulfson quilt.............. such pretty colours..............

..............detail of one of the cats along the edge of the quilt...........

Jane started this quilt soon after I met her - hmmmm that's quit a long time ago!!!! But anyway...................like all of Jane's quilts, it's coming along slowly but her colour choice is gorgeous...........

..................a sneaky photo of Letitia, Debs and Jane..... managed to get Judy and Janice in the backround!!

Debbie made this quilt for her caravan................

I gave Jules a quick lesson on the little Suffolk puff purse............

.............as usual, she was very happy with the result. Jules gets very happy about the "stuff" she makes!!!!!!!!

Sue made a pink one............

Jackie - from the Thursday night Buderim group is making this really, really, really nice scrap quilt. She is hand piecing it............

Gareth - home for the weekend

Dearest Mom and Dad
Gareth did EVENTUALLY arrive in Brisbane - only after Vaughn bought him another ticket!! Quite ridiculous really - his flight was due to land at 9.25 am and he arrived at 6.27pm - after spenind the whole day at Canberra airport. His team was in Brisbane to play against Sunnybank.................

And they won!!!! Australian Club champs!!! WOOHOO

It was very hot - 30deg - the boys from Canberra struggled a bit - so they spent quite a bit of time doing this................

.................... more water please.............

In fact, I think the whole experience aged him!!!!!

After game Pizza - watching the Reds do their thing!!

Nat looking a tad guilty????

The tall people - happy to be together!!!

Guinea fowls and baked goods.......

Dearest Mom and Dad
Well, Button spent her first day as a student of the University of Sydney. Dad, that will make you happy - both my children are at Uni - following in your footsteps!!!
Mom, here is the recipe for the chocolate slice from "Inner Pickle" - it is pretty rich - but delicious - keep it in the fridge. Read the whole post, because she does change it slightly. It does call for "Nice" biscuits - which I don't think you can get in South Africa - but I think "Tennis" biscuits will work. Do you remember how many packets of Tennis biscuits I ate when I was pregnant with Button?????

I know that this is strange - but I find this quite beautiful. I know, I know...... You should have of seen Vaughn's face when I told him that I wanted to take a photo of it!!!!! Poor man......... Well, I wanted to grow a plant in this old enamel teapot - so Vaughn made holes in the bottom for drainage - and this is the result.

I went to visit Marie the other day - her cat is HUGE - he doesn't look big in the photo - but he is well over 10kg. He was feral but gradually made himself comfortable in their home. He now follows her everywhere - just like "Seventy five" did with you...........

Marie LOVES op-shops - she bought this for $4.00..............

..............isn't the workmanship amazing??

They have guinea fowls!!! Reminded me of Africa!!

Gemsquash rather enjoys it when I am in the sewing room putting crazy blocks together - there is fabric everywhere and she makes little nests amongst it all.

Finally, just have a look at my tomatoes!!!!!!!!!! Because they are in boxes I could move them out of the rain (torrential AGAIN) - which was a good thing - as I think they were rotting - but look at them now!!!

Happy days - Gareth will be home for the weekend!!!!!!!
