I miss Button..................

Dearest Mom
Although Button and I talk at least 3 times a day - it's not the same as going into her room for a chat!!
I am a bit surprised that she has not asked me to send all her MM pictures to her.....

Here is the latest photo of the chef's at Acqua Pazza....

A country quilt show.............

Dearest Mom and Dad
We headed off to the Peachester Quilt Show on Sunday morning.............

A typically Australian country church - love them!

The five of us - Debs is taking the photo!! It was pretty cold up in the mountain...............

Locally grown roses to greet us at the front door......

First things first - we ate before anything!!!

 Sue and I..........

Cute country flowers on the tea tables...........

The next thing was to get some shopping done. I think there is one member of the group who goes to quilt shows just to shop.............Not mentioning names here........

The Patchwork Angel was there too.......

One of my purchases - wooden buttons - cool - have know idea if I will use them - but they were too pretty............

Secret women's business - checking out who bought what............

THEN we went to look at the quilts.................. I LOVED this Suffolk Puff quilt.  I don't think that there was one handquilted quilt on show, quite sad really.

We headed off down the mountain - all our shopping safely stored in the boot!
Another great day with great friends!

Up and running again..............

                                                           Dearest Mom and Dad
After a serious talking to by Button, I am feeling better and over my self pity!!!! I am a bit crazied out so I decided to do something fun.  I had these little triangles covered for a while now.  Sue "offered" to make up a little bag for me that she designed herself.  So I am making up the outside with the hexagons and triangles.  I managed to find - after a long search - some iron on vinyl which I am going to apply to the finished piece.  So my bag will be sort of laminated .........look, don't ask me why, but it's worth a try, right?

Ever loyal George never left my side during my "self pity" days.

Lee popped in for a cuppa armed with some home grown flowers.  I miss seeing her now that I don't work ................

After receiving this very threatening text from Letitia I hurried off to Buderim on Thursday night! Much to your horror I did go in your/my slippers!!!! I don't think anyone would have noticed had I had not pointed them out!!!!

Dad, I am still eating well. And have lost another kilo!!!!!!!

I seem to remember seeing a photo of you in your heyday, Dad, doing exactly this!!!

Another action shot of the tall person!!

Can you believe that these pictures done by Button and Gareth at pre-school and year one are still so bright and vibrant?  Button's picture of herself and Rocky are done in poster paint. Quite incredible, really.

Its rainy today - nice day to work on the book!!!!

No words today......

Dearest Mom and Dad
This weekend has been a bad one for me. Immigration gets harder not easier as time goes by. I miss my family terribly and I have robbed my children of time with their grandparents, aunts and cousins. I am sorry for that.

Guest Blog: With love, from Cape Town

Hello Cloustons,

Nan and Grandest are visiting Jono and I in the Mother City and one of their many engagements included dinner at Angie and Meg on Tuesday night.

Disclaimer: I was going to email you these images one at a time, and then I thought it a clever idea to do a guest post!

Another disclaimer: The pictures are average (thanks, Blackberry). But they give you a general idea.

So, in case you have forgotten what Cape Town looks like, here the view of Devil's Peak and Table Mountain from the balcony of my flat (taken with iPhone, hence it looks cooler than it actually is).

Ange and Meg live in Hartfield Village, in Cape Town's Southern Suburbs (so on the other side of the mountain to where I live). I have always loved Angie's house. It has such a warm, welcoming atmosphere - wooden floors, soft carpets, a bookcase stocked with teacups and books and a hearty kitchen that overlooks the courtyard and pool.

Megan's room (We all thought you would appreciate
 the decor. And the cat.)

On our way out, Ange picked these up and said "Don't you think Jen
would love these?" She got them at the Hout Bay Market, which you would love.

Earlier in the day, Grandest bought a bottle of Webersburg 2007 Cabarnet Sauvignon from the Waterfront, which he was most excited about. It was delicious! Meg even had a sip (on a school night). While Ange worked in the kitchen, we all hung out in the living room and caught up. Grandad was telling us a post-war story and got so excited ("Where were YOU during the waaaaaaar?") he scared the LIFE out of the cat. You know how he bellows....It was quite funny.

Ange made a risotto bake with mushrooms, spinach and parmesan (I had three bowls) and she served it with fresh battered fish and a fresh green salad with pak choi, mange tout and avo. She told us about the first time she met Nan - at  a rugby match in Newlands, Nan commented looked over at Ange said "You have so much hair on your head but hardly any on the rest of your body." Apparently Ange was horrified. As one would be. I just had to laugh, because Nan brings up her hair at least once in every convo.

I love this pic! How GLAM does Nan's hair look?
It was great to all be together again, in a beautiful home to share stories and good food and wine. If it could only happen once a month, instead of once a year. Angie and Meg send all their love. xxx

Happy birthday and Mother's day.............

Dearest Mom
By the sound of things you had a wonderful birthday and Mother's day. So sad that I could not share it with you.
I spent most of my Mother's day with Jane, Debs and Letitia at a quilt thingy.  We had organised to go a while ago before I knew Gareth was coming home.  Needless to say, I think Gareth and Vaughn were more than happy for me to leave them in peace!!!  They spent the day watching reruns of the rugby and seemed quite disappointed when I arrived home earlier than expected.  I bought a few bits and bobs from the show.  It was good - I discovered quilt shops that I did not know existed!!!

It's always soooooooooo good when Gareth and Button are home..................

If Gareth is feeling the cold here on the Sunny Coast he is going to be in deep trouble in Canberra. It was -3 there this morning!!!!!!!!

I love feeding a bunch of rugby boys - I miss that too!!!

The weather was beautiful........

Perfect for prawns at the spit............

I finished my 1/2'' hexagon quilt - I so enjoyed making it, quite sorry to see the end of it.

Instead of adding a border fabric I used up my extra hexagons - I am happy with the way it turned out.

The silver needs to be polished. When I opened the silvo bottle I was taken back to South Africa when I was a child.  Memories of maids polishing the silver on the verges of the neighbourhood homes.  With their legs straight out in front of them, enjoying the afternoon sun and each others company.  Seems like another world to me now.

Charlotte on the Saunderson linen chair - these need to be recovered but I don't think I will find such lovely fabric again.  Can you believe how long it has lasted??

I learned something new............

Dearest Mom and Dad
It's lovely having Gareth home - he also gives me lessons on my iPad - so here is a little photo cluster.  The Thursday crazy girls brought in some "Show and tell". Robyne made the quilt, the little hexie bag was made by Wendy for kimono silks and Isobel made the doctors bag. Judy was just plain showing off with her collection of silk ribbon! The pattern for the quilt and the two bags are available from the Patchwork Angel.
While Vaughn was away, I went for dinner with Ady and Annette.  We had way tooo much wine - good fun.  You will be pleased to know that this phot was taken at the early stage of my "healthy eating plan"!!!  Judging by the photo it's a good thing I did - where the hell is my neck????

My wrist has been giving me a lot of trouble - but Debs told me to buy one of these. Wow, what a difference.
It was another glorious day on the Sunny Coast - any excuse to go Mooloolaba for lunch with the tall people...

Honey, I'm home!!!

Dearest Mom and Dad
Firstly, I apologise for the short post - but for some reason I the #@#@# computer won't load photos onto the blog...............
Now that Vaughn is home I will have to start cooking dinner on Monday nights.........

While he was away I was served cold wine and good food by this special couple .......
Thanks Debs and Ross....

I did manage to get some work done though.........

Guess who I picked up from the airport today - Gareth is home for nearly a week - YAY!

Button is way too busy to spare us a weekend - I will have to go to Sydney to see her!!!!
I will try and post again later.

The little train that could................

Dearest Mom and Dad
I feel like that little train in the book I used to read to Gareth and Ainslie when they were small...............
I need to keep on chugging.......
Basically, this is what my life looks like at the moment ..

I few motivational words keep me going.........

I am still no sugaring and no wine (only during the week) - if I am desperate I have some of these..
I have now lost 4kgs in just over 3 weeks......

I am slightly addicted to quinoa - I found this book the other day and am whipping up a storm in the kitchen....

This is what I made the other day - mushroom and chickpea curry with quinoa...............
Nunu, I will try and find another copy of this book for you - but the shop can't keep up with the demand - in the meantime I will email you the recipe..............

It poured the other night during dragon boating - but with my new "rain jacket" I was just fine - in fact it was so lovely paddling in the rain...............

It was Sue's turn to do a trunk show - I didn't take any photos as Debbie was using my camera. I will give you the link for the Buderim blog when the photos are up.  It was a lovely trunk show - 90% of the quilt Sue has made she has given away as gifts........

Sue has been doing crazy with me for a few years now and is very very very good at making these lovely bags - which she knows sells..............

Just in case you thought Goji berries were just chocolate - think again - if you believe the packaging - one little hand full is the same as having 1 banana + 1 kiwi fruit + 1 carrot!!!
Look for yourself!!!!!!!

I am missing you TERRIBLY at the moment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
