Almost done.......................

Dearest Mom and Button
Just TWO more sleeps and I will be in South Africa...............It would have wonderful if you could have joined me, Button.
I am still very disorganized but I suppose I should be used to that by now..

I am now ready to add the binding to my 1/2" hexagon quilt. I was going to applique the quilt onto a border fabric but have decided to make a border of hexagons. That means I have to cover more hexagons - hundreds of them!!!!

A Mexican Fiesta................and a huntsman..........

Dearest Button and Mom
On Sunday Gareth decided to cook up a Mexican Fiesta........

Next thing Nat left the kitchen and returned looking like this............. She siad she felt she needed to dress up for the occasion. Nat did think she looked like a Mexican but, to be honest, I thought she looked more like a Yobbo!!!!!!!!!! No offense Nat, you did try!!!

Gareth's feast ............

Gareth and Nat - still looking like a yobbo............

I woke up to this little beauty in the laundry - THANK GOODNESS - Vaughn was home - he is an expert at catching and releasing hunstmen..............

Looking back.............

Dearest Mom and Button
I did a HUGE clean yesterday................. In the process off sorting out the linen cupboard I looked at my old quilts for the first time in years.

This is the second quilt I made - so it must be roughly 24 years old. At this time in South Africa, American cotton were nearly impossible to get, and if you were fortunate enough to find them they were HUGEly expensive. This quilt is made entirely of South African cottons. I made it for Gareth......

The fabric wore very well, except it now has mould in some places. I find it very hard to believe that I had the audacity to attempt this quilt - it is not a quilt I would recommed for a beginner!!!

I pieced it by machine and hand quilted it.

This quilt was made when I was pregnant with Button - so I know it is 22 years old. Interestingly, this quilt has worn the best out of all my quilts - AND it is mostly made up of poly-cottons. A big NO NO in quilting today.

Unfortunately, it too, has rust marks. Also, it has been folded for a long time in the cupboard.

My second paper pieced quilt - remember Mom, this quilt was on my bed for years..... The colours were so vibrant. We were now able to get American cottons in South Africa - this quilt is made up mostly of them.

I hand quilted it. Still one of my favourites!!!!!!

This is quilt is badly worn - most of the time it is the dark fabrics that perished.

This is Buttons quilt - I tried "strip piecing" for this one. It was quite the go then. Rulers and rotary cutters had just hit the shelves!!!!!!!!!!! This is hand quilted.

The fabrics have torn and a dog( I think it was Steffie) ate one corner!!!
As you know, I love to use my quilts so I do expect them not to last. One thing I have learned over the years is that the more dense your quilting is, the longer the fabrics last.

Wow, it's hot...............

Dearest Mom and Button

Wow, it so hot here at the moment!! Hard to get any handquilting done...........
I made this quilt a few years ago - I called it a "Season of Rugby" because I paper pieced it travelling to Brisbane every other weekend to watch Gareth play rugby - and, yes, I did get the top together in one ruby season!! Shows you how much time I spend in a car and at rugby ........

I got Vaughn to draft the template for me - he is quite handy at that!!!!!!!
There is a better photograph of the quilt on the Buderim Patchwork Blog . (Mom, just double click on the highlighted words and the photograph will pop up - then press "back arrow" - you know what I mean!! to return to my blog).

Margret made hers in blue and white - her favourite colours...

Pam made two......

Pam's second quilt...

Leanne's................ with the help of her daughter.

Vaughn's templates went forth and multiplied!!!

I'm not the only one........................

Dearest Mom and Button
I am not the only one looking forward to Vaughn coming home! The possum that Vaughn nursed back to health years ago still comes looking for food every night. He is the only one that she allows to stroke her. In fact, once the babies are out of her pouch, she lets Vaughn stroke them too.

The truth be told, I would prefer not to stroke ANY possum!!!!!!!!!!!!

..................and life goes on.

Dearest Button and Mom
Georgie and I were able to go for a long walk today - the weather cleared and the sun was shining. I realised that as my life went on as normal, there were (and are) so many people in Queensland going through this horrific flood. Losing not only their homes but their loved ones that they fought so hard to save. I find it very hard to take in............ and I must admit I was very frightened on Tuesday. The lake in front and the creek behind our house were very high..................but when the rain subsided so did they.

I am back to teaching crazy - I always enjoy seeing the girls I teach.
This is Lynley's work - I hope I have spelled her name correctly.

The background fabric of all her blocks is black and white - she then has embroidered and emblished each one in a different colour.

Lynley was introduced to crazy by her friend Sandra - and they arrive at the class laughing, stitch laughing and leave the class the same way.

A friend of theirs, Sharon, has also joined the class. It's great to see friends enjoying and stitching together. They share all their beads, ribbon, etc.

Sandra woke up early on Saturday and baked the most delicious "melting moments" - thanks Sandra!!!!!!!

Jokes aside - this is Lynley's first attempt at crazy and she travels along way for the class. Her was is quite gorgeous.
If you double click on the photographs - they should enlarge so you can see the stitches in detail.

.....................Yes, I do have ironing to do but....

Dearest Mom and Button,

I was spoiled today - I got to talk to BOTH of you on the same day!!!!!!!!

I found this pack of gorgeous wool felt at the Patchwork Angel......................

Deliberated for a few months and then thought I would try a mini Baltimore (sort of) quilt..........

The fun starts now - I get to stitch them down and do a bit of embellishing. I think I am going to like it................... thoughts??

An unexpected gift and dinner with Gareth...............

Dearest Button and Mom
Oh my gosh it is very hot and muggy here at the moment.

I recieved a gift from a very lovely lady on Tuesday. Marie, her crazy is so expressive and her colours are wonderful ........

.....made me a "block roll". The fact that Marie gave a gift with crazy quilting on is special to me.
Gareth and I went to dinner at Mulu Char last night. It is an African themed resturant. The food is fantastic. Gareth had a Romany Cream Brulee for dessert.
Dad, they have many South African beers available. Gareth enjoyed a bottle of Castle Lager.

Houston, we have a problem...........

Dearest Mom and Button

So, we have this MASSIVE cane toad that keeps coming into our house - to eat the cat food - it would not be too much of a problem if Vaughn was here to take him out............BUT Vaughn is NOT HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The other night I heard Squash crying at the doggie door - she obviously wanted to go outside - the cane toad was on the other side of the door - they had a face-off - the cane toad won!!!!!

A new year without Button............

Dearest Mom

Firstly, thanks for not giving me any warning about how difficult it is saying goodbye to children!!!! Jokes aside, Button leaving home has been terrible............... To make matters worse, she was such a little homebody, spending as much time as she could at home with the family.......................so I know I will battle without her here...............

We had a lovely New Years party with friends up the road - a delicious dinner with very nice people.

The theme was tropical - but very few people made the effort - I did try!!

Drinks with the family - before they left to a 60's themed party - more photos to follow.

Then it was time to say goodbye - George and Squash

Last lunch together.........

So from now on Mom, my blog will be for you AND Button!!

All my love

Jenny
