An Aussie Yeti and a birthday.................

Dearest Mom
This is the next thing on my agenda - I have managed to get Debs to join me!!! We are "in training" at the moment...........

Could this be the Aussie version of a Yeti - instead of long woollie hair an Aussie Yeti would wear a singlet (vest in SA), stubbies (short rugby shorts) sunnies (sunglasses) and tatts (tattoos) !!!!! .... This is just Gareth wearing all of the above in the creek behind our house.....

George loves these adventures - that's him in the water next to the bunch of branches!!!!! It was very low tide that day - when it's high tide is a good fishing spot for Gareth.

We went to the farmer's market with the tall people...................I have the feeling that they were not too happy having their photo taken!!!!!!!!!

Vaughn drafted this pattern for me - he is very patient - he never knows exactly what I am talking about - but he gets there in the end. I am going to be English paper piecing this quilt - for Button.

Gareth seems to have lost his fishing mojo - this is the only fish he has caught in a while.

It was Letitia's birthday - so off we went for another evening of laughing and eating!!

Debs made a little doll for Letitia - the photo of the doll and Letitia was not very good!!! In the doll"s bag was this little bit of knitting that Debs had done - the mind boggles!!!

The four of us - good times - as usual.............

Hexagon mayhem class............

Dearest Mom
I taught the Hexagon Mayhem class again at work............

Deb's Kaffe and polka dots............striking!!!

Barb had made one but came to the class anyway................

........this time she chose to use a smaller size hexagon - I am interested to see how it turns out....

Gillian used a fresh white as her background - nice.........

Tory chose blue hexagon with a red and cream shirting background - lovely selection of blues.........
Margret's green really "pops"......

Anne chose pretty 1930's reproduction fabrics ........................ I am very partial to 30's fabrics...

Pauline's French General fabric is very elegant ...............

I could not get a photo of Gayle's quilt - we did not get to the photo stage - sorry Gayle........

While it is always good to see the quilts that are made in a class, the best thing for me about teaching is the people I get to meet.

Thanks Barb, Tory, Margaret, Pauline, Deb, Gayle, Gillian and Anne - I had a great day.

Button..................

Dearest Mom
Here is one of Button's creations - go onto the Acqua Pazza site - there are a few photos of their delicious food. She was telling me that John Howard came to have lunch there, I asked her what he was like. Her reply, "Small" !!!

Button will teaching again in October - I will, unfortunately, not be able to join the class - I am teaching crazy that weekend. Here she is helping Mario ........

...............finding something funny...............

............paper, scissors, rock???????...........

There are, unfortunately, no photographs of her teaching her dessert.......

Don't forget to look at the "Sew so crazy!" blog - wow, the girls are creating some wonderful work.

Snakes and dragons...................

Dearest Mom and Dad
Vaughn and I had an eventful weekend - Gareth was in Sydney visiting Button - so we thought that we would be like Darby and Joan have a quiet one......
Hmmm................. While we were getting over the shock of Ireland beating the Wallabies (shock and horror) there was a knock at the door. We were informed that a large snake was heading up our driveway from the road. Intrepid Vaughn, armed with a pillow case ( I have no idea what the other person was doing with the sheet) captured the carpet python.

............... after deliberating for quite a while on where he should release the snake................

.............he set it free BEHIND OUR HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!! As you can see, it's not really a big one BUT STILL..........

Squash seemed a bit put out by all the commotion...........

On Sunday a participated in my first regatta.....................

..............the marshalling area - waiting to get onto our boats - all very organised..........

..........we have to paddle out to where we race from - it would be nice if we were towed out!!!

...............that's me right at the back..................

.......and again................

..............one race down - five more to go............

.............such a good day - very, very tiring - I wish I had stated this years ago.............

Unmotivated............

Dearest Mom and Dad
Gareth is going to spend the weekend with Button - then she is off to Japan for 10 days - so exciting for her!!! She also seriously needs the break.............

I found this plant which I thought would be suitable for me........... read the small print.........who cares what it looks like, as long as it survives!!!!!!!!

I am strangely very unmotivated at the moment - quilt wise......... I have lots of unfinished crazy just lurking around...........

........way too much civil war fabric taking up space.........

............lovely brights screaming to be used............

............soft pretties for Button..................

..................Liberty bought on a whim...................

...............but I still can't bring myself to stitch right now, maybe it's because with all my family in South Africa I don't really have someone to make a quilt for..............

............maybe I need to go back to my roots for a while.............

or maybe, just maybe, I need to get a life, count my blessings and STOP buying(and stashing) fabrics - which is so unlike me anyway.

Sorry about the rant - I am feeling a bit unsettled at the moment - I don't really like it when Vaughn works away.

News.......................

Dearest Mom and Dad
Sorry, I have not blogged in over a week - I have been a bit busy!!!!
It's quite difficult for me to work on the computer, because Charlotte (who is a cat that does not really like affection) demands attention whenever I sit down at the computer. It's quite strange, really...

My big clean up is going well - I bought in the big guns last week - Bob, the Biff-it guy, was called in!!!!! Such a lovely feeling - getting rid of "stuff".............

The weather has been a bit iffy, but this is what the sea looked like when I went for my early morning run/walk at Mooloolaba on Monday morning. A bit too flat for you, Dad.

I am so excited - I have completed my technique "training" for dragon boat racing and now start the real training!! WOOOHOOO!!!!!! Bought my outfit the other day - nonslip shoes and wetsuit pants - all I need now are some little gloves and my team T-shirt. Jane seems to think I am doing this just for the clothes!!!!!

The thing that I am really, really excited about is - that we DO have a drummer setting the pace AND we have dragon heads and tails on our boat. Jane, that's the reason why I am doing this sport!!!!!

I taught the boxed bag class at the Patchwork Angel - some of the girls...........

Janet, Anne, Dianne and Isobel.............

........their little bags................

Rugby World Cup time, so I am trying to keep us healthy - instead of fatty treats during the games - I am serving fruit. Hmmmm, lets see how long that lasts.

We all spent time together watching the rugby - which is the best thing about it all. I have my large tumbler shapes cut and covered, ready to go.............

Mom, you will be pleased to know that I am feeling much better today.

I love and miss you both.
